Use of Biotechnology on Enhancing Antifouling Coating Performance
SHORT INTRODUCTION
I-Tech AB, the global supplier of the antifouling ingredient Selektope®, will be hosting a workshop and presentation to showcase the technology behind their award-winning product.
Selektope® is a proven and recognized antifouling ingredient used in marine paint, which helps prevent barnacle fouling, a major challenge for operations and energy efficiency in the global shipping industry. The technology behind Selektope® was discovered at the Swedish Foundation for Strategic Environment Research (MISTRA) Programme for Marine Paint, a Swedish multidisciplinary research project at the University of Gothenburg and Chalmers University of Technology.
Over the past twenty years, I-Tech has successfully navigated the regulatory processes associated with building an EU Biocidal Products Regulation (BPR) regulatory dossier to ensure safe use of the active substance. This has enabled Selektope® to become one of the few active substances approved for use in marine antifouling coatings, and has helped bring antifouling coating performance under static conditions to the next level.
The workshop and presentation will focus on the mode of action of Selektope®, as well as new opportunities for using the technology in new building, drydocking, idling, and low biocidal loads in antifouling and fouling release coatings (FRCs). Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with Philip Chaabane, CEO, and Ulf Hansen, Senior Advisor, to discuss the challenges of biofouling and ask technical questions.

ABOUT THE SPEAKERS
PHILIP CHABAANE
Philip is an international business leader who has a unique combination of experience in senior positions from global technology companies, both large and small.
He joined I-Tech AB (Publ) in 2013 and has served as chief executive officer since 2014. Prior to joining I-Tech, Philip headed the engineering team at the pioneering fuel cell company, PowerCell Sweden (Publ) and later he took on the business and customer development activities. Powercell is a spin out from Volvo Group and was established in 2008.
His professional carrier started in 2004 at Volvo Aero (GKN Aerospace) with responsibilities within coating technologies, process improvements and manufacturing of jet engine components.
ULF HANSEN
Ulf has over 20 successful years in the shipping industry working for both the maritime supply industry, as a ship owner/manager and as shipyard agent.
Ulf joined I-Tech as a consulting senior advisor in 2020 with focus on refining the company’s approach to its direct and indirect customers. Later, active business development including strategy became a dominant duty.
Prior to this, Ulf held various senior managerial positions at both Jotun and Hempel including being Managing Director and President for regional branches of Jotun for whom he worked for 14 years.
