The EU to Slash Emission by 90% by 2040
The European Commission has unveiled its strategy aimed at substantially boosting industrial carbon capture, storage, and utilization capacity across the EU in the coming years. This initiative stands as a pivotal component of the Commission’s overarching plan to realize its climate objectives, including the attainment of net zero emissions by 2050. The Commission has also proposed setting a target for the EU to slash net greenhouse gas emissions by 90% by 2040. This target serves as a crucial milestone on the journey towards achieving carbon neutrality by 2050. While emphasizing its primary focus on absolute emissions reductions, the Commission acknowledges the imperative of significantly enhancing the capacity for CO2 capture, storage, and utilization. This is particularly pertinent for addressing emissions stemming from challenging-to-decarbonize industrial processes and sectors like transportation and agriculture.
