The DevH2forEAF project achieved a key milestone in hydrogen utilization for steel production with the first test we conducted with Nippon Gases Italia and SMS group Italy at our experimental combustion station in Dalmine (Italy).
The test resulted from a series of trials, progressively increasing the burner’s power from 1 MW to 3 MW and the H2 fraction from 0 to 100%. This success validates the burner’s ability to operate in varying conditions, marking a significant step toward industrial-scale implementation.
This project we’re coordinating focuses on developing an innovative multi-fuel burner for electric arc furnaces. The burner is designed to efficiently use a mixture of natural gas and hydrogen and represents a pioneering solution to support the transition from fossil fuels to hydrogen in steelmaking processes.
