Right now, somewhere, a mariner or shoreside manager is taking the time to mentor a shipmate, helping to shape a future leader through positive reinforcement or training.
As you read this, a mariner has just taken action above and beyond the normal call of duty to ensure the safety of their shipmates and/or protect the marine environment.
Wouldn’t it be good for them to receive some recognition for their efforts?
The American P&I Club thinks so and is introducing the “Mentorship and Heroic Acts Awards” program as a way for Members to highlight these mariners and shoreside managers – individually, in groups and even entire vessels! – who exemplify professional excellence through their dedication to mentorship and/or by having undertaken actions that have protected their shipmates, others or the marine environment.
How does it work?
Mariners and shoreside managers are encouraged to submit nominations via the Club’s online portal. Each submission will be carefully reviewed, and a citation along with a certificate will be awarded to the nominated individual(s) and/or vessel through the insured Member office for distribution. This new initiative is open to all mariners aboard – and shoreside managers for – vessels entered with the Club.
