MARIA BOILE declares:
My keynote presentation at the EUSAIR workshop “Green Ports and the Skills of Tomorrow: Advancing Port Competences and Critical Success Factors for a Sustainable Maritime Transition”, organized by the Central European Initiative (CEI) and the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region, with the support of the Coordinator of EUSAIR Pillar II – Transport, within the framework of the Green Ports initiative, focused on “Greening of European Seaports: Pathways, Practices, and Skills for a Sustainable Future”.
The presentation drew on key insights from a recently completed study on the Greening of European Seaports. In response to a call by the European Parliament to investigate the capacity for greening of European seaports, this study was carried out under a tender by DG MOVE. It examined good practices, enablers, barriers and the conditions for transferability, particularly for small and medium-sized ports.
A key message: Green infrastructure must be matched by green competences. Human capital, skill development, and strategic capacity building are essential to ensure ports can navigate the challenges of the green transition.
Many thanks to the organizers for this excellent initiative, and to all fellow speakers and participants for the engaging presentations and thought-provoking discussions. It’s clear that shaping the sustainable, resilient ports of the future will require alignment of technology, policy, and people.
