DryDel Expands Orderbook with Three Newbuildings at Japanese Shipyards

Greek dry bulk owner DryDel Shipping announced an expansion of its fleet, with the addition of three new dry bulk carriers just ahead of the international maritime exhibition Posidonia 2026.

The company, owned by Mr. Kostas Delaportas, has signed agreements for the construction of an 82,000-dwt Kamsarmax vessel at Shin Kurushima Shipyard, scheduled for delivery in 2028, as well as two 64,000-dwt Ultramax vessels.

One of the Ultramax ships will be built at Nihon Shipyard (Imabari) for delivery in 2029, while the second will be constructed at Oshima Shipyard and delivered in 2030.

All three vessels will be built as next-generation super eco designs and will feature state-of-the-art technology, incorporating highly energy-efficient designs and lower emissions. They will comply with Tier III / Phase 3 environmental standards, supporting the company’s strategy for sustainable growth.

Since 2021, DryDel has placed more than 20 newbuilding orders exclusively with Japanese shipyards, making investments across the entire dry bulk market spectrum, from Handysize to Capesize vessels.

Over the past two years, the company has already taken delivery of 10 Japanese-built vessels. Following the latest agreements, its current newbuilding program now stands at 11 vessels, with a combined carrying capacity exceeding 1.2 million dwt.

Commenting on the expansion, DryDel CEO Kostas Delaportas noted:

“At DryDel Shipping, we continue to invest exclusively in the Japanese shipbuilding industry, guided by a long-term perspective and strong confidence in the quality and excellence that Japanese shipyards have consistently delivered over the years.
