The University of the Aegean invites you to the SEA (CI)-TIES hybrid event “Strengthening Economic Alliances in the wider Black Sea region, through International Engagement and Shipping” taking place on Tuesday, 21 October 2025, from 10:00 to 17:00 (EEST), in Chios, Greece, and online.

Organised within the framework of European Maritime Day (EMD) in My Country, this event will be led by Dr. Maria B. LekakouProfessor in Maritime Economics, Department of Shipping, Trade and Transport, School of Business, University of the Aegean.

About the Event

SEA (CI)-TIES aims to foster dialogue and cooperation among maritime professionals, academics, policymakers, and local actors on the evolving role of shipping and maritime transport in supporting sustainable growth and regional integration.

Participants will explore:

  • The latest EU and international frameworks supporting maritime and coastal development;

  • The challenges and opportunities emerging from global economic and environmental transitions;

  • The role of shipping, ports, and local communities in driving prosperity and resilience across the Black Sea and Mediterranean regions.

The event will bring together a diverse range of experts and stakeholders from the shipping sectorport authoritiesresearch institutions, and international organisations, to discuss how maritime connectivity and collaboration can strengthen the blue economy and promote cross-border alliances.

Deliverables and Next Steps

Following the discussions, the organisers will prepare a document of recommendations, reflecting the key insights and proposals of the event. This will be shared with the European Commission and relevant coordination bodies under regional strategies such as the Common Maritime Agenda for the Black Sea and EUSAIR Pillar 1 “Blue Sustainable Economy”.

Participation is free of charge. Travel and accommodation expenses for on-site participants are at their own cost.
