We are looking for an Assistant Cost Controller to join our Finance team and play a key role in monitoring and controlling port and terminal costs, supporting our commitment to accuracy, cost efficiency, and operational excellence.

Reporting to Treasurer & Financial Controller, key accountabilities include:

  • Auditing and monitoring disbursement account total expenditures, verifying invoices against port tariffs and agreed terms, and liaising with port agents and terminal operators to resolve discrepancies.
  • Liaising with internal and external stakeholders for the accurate estimation of port and cargo expenses.
  • Calculating and entering estimated disbursement account and terminal cargo handling costs into the ERP system.
  • Assisting in the reconciliation of periodic statements of accounts issued by port agents with company records.
  • Preparing reports containing disbursement account and terminal cargo handling cost data for further company use.
  • Coordinating with Operations and Crew departments, as well as port agents, to ensure the timely delivery of Cash to Master according to fleet schedules.
  • Assisting in developing and monitoring the company budget for the disbursement account and cargo handling costs.
  • Providing cost impact analysis and supporting commercial negotiations for port and terminal expenses.
  • Analyzing and attributing variations in expenditures versus budget and prior years to support financial reporting.
  • Proactively identifying areas for cost optimization in the company’s cost structure.

 

Required qualifications:

  • University degree in Economics. Other degrees will be considered if supported by relevant professional experience. Maritime studies (e.g., Finance and Management) will be considered a plus.
  • 0 to 2 years of relevant experience in Finance. Experience in the shipping industry will be considered an advantage.

 

Skills & Competencies:

  • Solid understanding of the shipping business environment.
  • Excellent reporting and statistical analysis skills, with proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite and the ability to collect, scrutinize, and report relevant business data.
  • Knowledge of the Microsoft Business Central ERP System, Power BI, or Teams will be considered an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in Greek and English.
  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to multitask and prioritize effectively in a fast-paced environment.
  • A team player with a proactive, can-do attitude and strong collaboration skills across departments.
