AGENDA

08:30 REGISTRATION

09:20 Editor’s introduction – Karl Jeffery, editor, People Tech Maritime

09:30 A chartering person’s honest view on what good chartering software should look like

Iakovos (Jack) Archontakis, Senior Maritime Strategy Consultant – Chartering Executive & Commercial Director, TMC SHIPPING

Why I am sometimes disappointed with certain chartering software solutions currently available – Impressive dashboards, limited usability

The complexity of chartering decisions and the many non-digital factors involved such as human psychology, counterparty behaviour, risk

Why the human brain often manages complex commercial modelling more efficiently than rigid digital systems.

The gap between what is theoretically possible in software and what is practically usable under time pressure.

What an ideal chartering software would look like from my perspective.

09:50 PANEL – DIGITAL MATURITY

What are the best ways to make progress with maritime AI ? How can it be better understood?

Are there ways to make digital technology easier

Perspectives on different aspects of digital maturity – technology manageability, integrat-ability, modelling around users, digital infrastructure management, data management, decarbonisation technology, creating training materials, having clear value propositions, work co-ordination, better supporting situation awareness, supporting operational procedures, aligning IT and operations departments, aligning tech investors with shipping company interests, making cybersecurity work – (see bottom of the page About | People Tech Maritime for more on this.

Moderator: Dimitris Lyras, Director, Paralos Maritime

Panellists:

Thanos Servos, IT Manager, Seaven Tankers

Andreas Polidis, IT Advisor, Ionic

Tilemachos Kreouzis, Senior ICT Officer, Newpo

10:50 BREAK

11:20 PANEL – CYBERSECURITY

How is best practise in maritime cybersecurity evolving?

Any thoughts on where cybersecurity requirements are creating unnecessary headache for the IT department or operations staff?

Moderator: Spyridon Papageorgiou,Partner of Cybersecurity in Technology & Transformation, KPMG Greece

Panellists:

Yiannis Sofianidis, IT Director and CISO – A.M. Nomikos Transworld Maritime Agencies

Alex Stathopoulos, IT Manager, Hellas Confidence Shipmanagement

12:30 LUNCH

DECARBONISATION / VESSEL PERFORMANCE SESSION

14:00 Why data quality matters in the ETS and FuelEU maritime framework

Stathis Kalkounis, Energy & Environmental Engineer, Central Mare

Is your operational data sufficiently validated and granular to effectively control ETS and FuelEU exposure?

Are your noon reports, fuel consumption records, and BDNs systematically integrated to enable continuous and accurate calculation of compliance balance?

How to address common pitfalls in meeting reporting requirements.

14:20 Why fleet performance culture cannot be purchased

Christos Papandreou, CEO & Founder, Blue Autonomy (former Energy Efficiency & Fleet Performance Engineer, Athenian Sea Carriers)

A fleet performance culture needs a foundation of robust data pipelines, which can only be built, not purchased

A fleet performance culture needs procedures crews and operators can follow, to turn data insights into efficiency measures

A fleet performance culture needs an organisational commitment to improving vessel performance, which requires more than tools

14:40 PANEL – DECARBONISATION / VESSEL PERFORMANCE

How do we make it easier to get a solid foundation of decarbonisation / performance related data?

What sort of data analytics would be most useful in managing vessel performance?

Can AI make a contribution to decarbonisation / vessel performance?

What are the biggest challenges in meeting reporting requirements and how can they be resolved?

How much is vessel performance management about reporting and how much about reducing emissions and fuel costs?

Moderator: Ioannis Makris, Technical Manager, Angelakos Hellas

Panellists:

Christos Papandreou, CEO & Founder, Blue Autonomy

Antonios Lalechos, CEO & Founder, NeptuneZero (former Projects & Performance Manager, TMS Cardiff Gas)

Stathis Kalkounis, Energy & Environmental Engineer, Central Mare

15:40 Close

Auditorium, Eugenides Centre, 387, Syggrou Ave, Paleo Faliro, Athensaritime data and digital technology may be going through the biggest period of change since the dot com era.

We are moving from a world of standalone software and single-channel satcoms to a world with a much bigger focus on data quality, big interest in AI tools to support people’s situation awareness and decision making, and a new technology space in between, which may be known as a semantic layer, intelligence layer, or data contextualisation. The biggest business opportunity may lie with that.

You can find out about the latest developments, and build your position in this new world, at our second People Tech Maritime event in Athens on April 21.

The best software to support decision making is not the most sophisticated software, but software which provides accurate and pertinent information. You’ll hear a perspective on this relating to chartering from TMC Maritime.

Companies want to see maturity in how the various digital components are developed to serve specific maritime needs and how they work together. You’ll hear perspectives on this from Angelicoussis, Paralos Maritime, Seaven Tankers and Ionic.

When it comes to cybersecurity, the hackers may be several steps ahead in understanding the weak points in our complex digital infrastructures and how to exploit them. Hint-  it is probably getting access to someone’s email system by phishing, automatically scanning emails for a bank account number, and then changing it. There will be cybersecurity perspectives from MPP Carriers, TMS, A.M. Nomikos, Hellas Confidence Shipmanagement and Motor Oil.

In the afternoon we focus on vessel performance / decarbonisation. Here the big focus is on data quality management, and a secondary focus is getting useful analytics, AI decision support tools, supporting regulatory reporting and driving changes in culture. There will be perspectives from Stealth, Central Mare, Blue Autonomy, Angelakos Hellas, Angelicoussis and TMS Cardiff Gas.
