𝐁𝐮𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐮 𝐕𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐬 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐞 & 𝐎𝐟𝐟𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐥 𝐌𝐞𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔

Chaired by Hing Chao, this year’s discussions focused on the growing interconnectedness of geopolitics, energy security, technological innovation, maritime decarbonization and global trade, and what these developments mean for the future of shipping.

The meeting was opened by Alexander Gregg-Smith, President of Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore, who highlighted the importance of bringing together diverse perspectives as the industry navigates an increasingly complex and rapidly evolving environment. Matthieu de Tugny, Executive Vice-President, Industrials & Commodities, Bureau Veritas, shared insights into the interconnected nature of industrial value chains and the industrial transformation, energy transition and technological developments reshaping global markets.

We were honoured to welcome former President of Croatia Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović as a special guest, sharing valuable perspectives on the evolving geopolitical landscape and its implications for global trade, economic resilience and international cooperation. Her contribution complemented insights from Michał Kurtyka, former Minister of Energy, Climate and Environment of Poland and President of COP24, who reflected on how geopolitical developments, strategic competition and energy security are influencing global decision-making.

Additional perspectives were provided by Araceli Fernandez Pales, Head of Technology Innovation at the International Energy Agency (IEA), who shared insights into global energy investment trends, electrification and energy security, and by Francois Cadiou, Managing Director of BRS Paris, who explored the strategic and geopolitical role of shipping and shipbuilding in a rapidly changing world.

Moderated by Nick Brown, wide-ranging and engaging discussions covered topics including geopolitics, the IMO Net Zero Framework, emerging green fuel supply chains, maritime governance and the growing role of artificial intelligence across the maritime value chain. Participants also examined the evolution of ship classification and the growing role of class societies in supporting safety, resilience, innovation and digitalization, with contributions from Christophe Chauviere, Steve Grotsky and Hugo Renevey.
