On World Maritime Day, I’m reminded of how much our industry depends on people; their expertise, commitment and willingness to embrace change. I believe it is our responsibility to keep turning ambition into action, ensuring progress creates opportunities across our diverse maritime community.
I am very proud to be part of this journey, both with WISTA Internationalnternational and personally.

This year’s World Maritime Day theme, “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence”, is a reminder that progress in our industry is measured not only by the policies we develop, but by how they translate into meaningful change.
This means turning ideas, advocacy and collaboration into action, creating opportunities, strengthening inclusion and helping shape an industry where everyone can thrive.
WISTA International has played a key role in changing the narrative surrounding gender equity and equality in maritime and related sectors. We are proud to have developed and supported numerous initiatives which have contributed to real change, including the IMO-WISTA Women in Maritime Survey, the IMO-WMU-WISTA Women’s Empowerment / Gender-inclusive Leadership in Maritime Training Course and the IMO-WISTA Speakers Bureau.
However, today, we also continue to recognise the seafarers who keep global trade moving, despite the challenges the are once again facing, and reaffirm the importance of ensuring freedom of navigation and the safety of those who serve at sea.
