Scorpio Tankers Owning the Second US-flagged Ship to Exit the Strait of Hormuz

Once Project Freedom was aborted by the United States, there have been some honest efforts to cross through the now famous Strait of Hormuz with minimal success. Before abandoning their 48 hour plan though, the US has managed two successful transits. Notably, 8 other vessels, holding no ties to the US administration, departed independently as well.

In fact, the second US-flagged vessel that exited the waterway is owned by Scorpio Tankers.

The CS Anthem is a 50,000 dwt oil and chemical tanker built in 2017, went through the Gulf on Monday, escorted by the US military.

Crowley-Stena Marine Solutions, operating the vessel, stated:

“The Crowley-managed vessel, CS Anthem, has safely completed its transit through the Strait of Hormuz.”

Alliance Fairfax, a vehicle carrier managed by AP Moller-Maersk was the other vessel to make it out, after remaining stuck there since February.

It has been reported by NBC News that both ships suffered attacks from Iran during their transit, but managed to escape unscathed.

Representatives from the Danish shipping company Maersk, have directly opposed that statement announcing that both vessels exited the Gulf without incident.

According to Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, the US government has reached out to multiple shipping companies prior to shutting down the operation, offering a safe passage. However, few responded favourably.

Several sources have reported to Reuters that three more US-flagged ships are currently stuck west of the Strait, while more that 1,600 vessels from all over the world are unable to leave the Gulf as well.

Despite the agreed upon ceasefire, missiles continue to fly over Hormuz, with both seafarers and shipping companies hesitating to risk the journey.

It’s important to note that before the war, approximately 120 travelled the waterway on a daily basis.
