BIMCO- CREWMAN review off to a good start

Work to update BIMCO’s two standard crew management agreements, CREWMAN A and CREWMAN B, has started this week. The aim is to have both revised contracts ready for use in spring 2025.

The review of CREWMAN A (Cost plus fee) and CREWMAN B (Lump sum) follows the update of BIMCO’s popular standard ship management agreement SHIPMAN which was published in a 2024 edition in April this year.

“CREWMAN A and B are widely used in the industry and with a new SHIPMAN 2024 released to the market we want to make sure the two crew management agreements are also up-to-date and fit for purpose”, says Capt. Ajay Hazari of Anglo-Eastern Ship Management, who leads the drafting team revising the third-party management agreements.

CREWMAN A and B were last updated in 2009. The drafting team will be reviewing both agreements with a view to carrying over logical amendments from SHIPMAN 2024 and making any other adjustments considered necessary due to developments in crew management practices. The drafting team has started its review of CREWMAN A and will, once finalised, continue with the revision of CREWMAN B.

In addition to Capt. Hazari, the drafting team consists of the following shipowners and crew managers as well as insurance, legal and industry representatives: Steve Davies, Anglo International Shipping Operations, Johan Botes, Oldendorff Carriers GmbH & Co. KG, Torkel Børnes, Höegh LNG, Graham Prayel, V Ships, Manolis Nicolaou, Columbia Shipmanagement, Tim Howse, Gard AS, Tim Davies, West P&I Club, Robert Hodge, ITIC, Stephen Mackin, Hill Dickinson LLP and Marcello Pica, FONASBA.

If you want to have your say on the revision, join the sounding board by sending an email to contracts@bimco.org and you will receive the draft agreements when they are ready for wider industry consultation.

The drafting team will continue its work at its next meeting on 3 and 4 October.
