DNV-What does 2026 have in store for the maritime industry?

That’s a question answered by our CEO Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen in Maritime Journal’s New Year feature as he shared his outlook on the priorities shaping the sector over the next 12 months.

Joining other influential voices from the shipping, energy, and technology industries, Knut highlights energy efficiency and technological innovation as key drivers for progress in 2026.

He added: “In the near term, efficiency and bio-fuel blends will be critical bridges, reducing emissions and operational costs while new fuel pathways and technologies mature. Over the longer term, supply of better fuels, along with port and infrastructure developments, and dual-fuel technologies will unlock additional decarbonization achievements. Those who embrace flexibility, invest in skills, and foster cross-industry collaboration will lead the way, ensuring global shipping remains resilient, competitive, and a driving force for sustainable progress.”
