Bureau Veritas | Marine & Offshore: Meet us at SMM Hamburg!

What a great start to SMM Hamburg!

Our Day 1 has been packed with insightful discussions, technology demonstrations and milestone recognitions as we connect with customers, partners and industry leaders from around the world in Hamburg.

A key highlight of the day was our seminar, How Digitalization is Reshaping Classification and Shipping. Bureau Veritas experts Sumit PAUL and Hugo Renevey shared perspectives on how digital innovation, assurance and AI are helping the maritime industry shift from reactive to proactive decision-making, strengthening asset integrity and reliability. They also showcased BV solutions such as RIT, AGS 3D and SMART notations. The seminar concluded with an engaging panel discussion moderated by Chris Greenwood, featuring industry leaders Kay Dausendschön from Wärtsilä, Shailesh Shirsekar from Accelleron and Kai Groen from Briese Schiffahrt. Discussions explored how digitalization is creating value beyond compliance, enhancing operational performance and decarbonization, and how Class can help build trust across an increasingly data-driven ecosystem.

Nico Dettmann, M&O Business Development Manager, joined experts from the German Maritime Center and the Mærsk Mc-Kinney Møller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping on the Efficiency Stage to discuss what smart ship design looks like in uncertain times. The session highlighted how energy-efficient design, hydrodynamic optimization and lightweight construction will play a critical role in reducing emissions alongside future fuel choices.

Ahead of SMM, our Cyber Market Leader Panagiotis Anastasiou moderated a panel at the 1st Mare Forum Germany 2026 focused on Digitalization, Cybersecurity and AI in European ports and Shipping. The discussion highlighted the importance of cyber resilience across the entire maritime supply chain, data governance and a strong digital safety culture as essential foundations for maritime.
