Analysis from DNV has shown that LNG was the most popular fuel choice amongst vessel owners ordering alternative fuel powered ships in 2022.
The research revealed that more than 80% of orders for vessels running on alternative fuel sources were for LNG powered ships, totalling 222 contracted orders across the year. This is in comparison to 35 for methanol powered vessels, the second most popular choice of fuel.
Close to 75% of LNG-fuelled vessel orders were for container ships and car and truck carriers.
