­ABOUT THE PANELISTS

Gregory, a distinguished figure in the field of Ship and Marine Hydrodynamics, currently serves as a Professor at the School of Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering of the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA).

Professor Grigoropoulos brings a unique blend of academic prowess and practical experience to his role.

His specialization spans Applied Ship Hydrodynamics, Experimental Procedures and Measurements, Design of high-speed craft and sailing yachts, Design and construction of fishing vessels, Computer-Aided Design, and Decision Support Systems for the Shipping Industry.

Professor Gregory Grigoropoulos is an active member of SNAME, STG, and RINA, having held leadership roles such as Chairman of the Greek Section of SNAME (2004-2006) and Regional Vice-President of SNAME (2005-2009).

Mr. Panagiotis Anastasiou is the Cybersecurity Technical Leader for Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore. He has wide experience in Cyber-security having worked for more than 13 years in the space industry covering Flight, Ground, and Secure Operations implementing cyber-security practices, as he has a solid technical background and a highly analytical mind. Panagiotis has a high technical knowledge encompassing new technologies, service continuity, and project management.

In addition to his Technical Lead role, Panagiotis is the BV representative on the IACS Cyber Systems Panel where he is actively contributing to the evolution of the Cybersecurity requirements for the Maritime Industry.

Panagiotis holds a BSc in Computer Science and an MSc in Computing with an emphasis in Networking and Data Analysis.

 

Nikolaos Loukeris is an Assistant Professor of Finance at the University of West Attica since 2020, where he also serves as the Supervisor of Internships in Athens for the Finance & Shipping program. Additionally, he holds the position of Visiting Professor at the Athens University of Economics and Business, specializing in the Department of Accounting & Finance, and at the Hellenic Open University in the Postgraduate Department of Shipping.

His extensive academic career has taken him to various prestigious institutions, including the Universities of Maryland UMUC, Macedonia, Crete, Cyprus, Greenwitch, South Wales, as well as the Naval and Police Academies of Greece. With a background as an Officer of the Merchant Marine (Purser & Engine), Nikolaos brings a unique blend of practical experience and academic insight to his work.

Throughout his career, Nikolaos has demonstrated versatility, having worked in diverse fields such as Business Consultancy, Mechanics Engineering, Accountancy, and AI. He has served in roles such as Instruction Director and Controller, bringing a wealth of experience and expertise to the intersection of finance, shipping, and academia.

Dr. Ioannis Patiniotis is the Financial Director of Carras (Hellas) S.A. and academic researcher in Human Resource management and Artificial Intelligence.

With an illustrious career spanning over 46 years in the shipping sector Dr. Patiniotis has demonstrated a profound commitment to both industry practice and academic exploration.

Dr. Patiniotis is Graduate in Maritime and Accounting and Post Graduate in MBA from Kinston University. He is Doctorate in Economy from European University, Swiss.

In Covid period he started a period of new studies. He received Diploma in Positive Psychology and Business and Life Coaching. A few days ago he received his last certificate in Artificial Intelligence study. He studied on a sandwich course of MIT – Sloan School of Management and Computer Science & Artificial Intelligence Laboratory.

Dr. Patiniotis is also an author, poet, radio producer on the philosophy of economic theories as well as a columnist in many and varied media.

Dr Patiniotis is the founder of many artificial intelligence applications, such as the “Soft Skills Certification” with which seaman can be verified the soft skills of seafarers, the “On board Coaching Empowerment” as seafarers can discuss on board with coaches about their problems, and “Ship Owner’s Information” an information system dedicated to the ship owner needs and requirements.

 

Panos Zachariadis is Technical Director of Atlantic Bulk Carriers Management Ltd since 1996 and Fellow of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME) since Fall 2023.

His four decades of shipping experience spans diverse areas including sea service in bulk carriers and oil tankers, dry dock repairs, new-building supervision, negotiations and specifications, ship operations and chartering. He holds a BSc degree in Mechanical Engineering and a MSE degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering from the University of Michigan.

He has been attending IMO since 2004 as a member of the Greek delegation.

Panos Zachariadis is a prolific author, contributing to the industry with numerous technical guides, papers, and articles. His remarkable contributions have earned him several prestigious awards, including the 2011 Efkranti Award for his significant contribution to Greek shipping, the Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association 2017 Maritime Personality Award, the 2017 Lloyd’s List “Achievement in Safety or Environmental Protection” Award, the 2019 Green4Sea “Personality” Award, and the 2021 Lloyd’s List “Technical Achievement” Award.

 

His dedication extends beyond individual recognition, as Panos actively contributes to various technical committees, including the Hellenic Chamber of Shipping, Union of Greek Shipowners, BIMCO Environmental Committee, ABS European Technical Committee, LR Technical Committee, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, SNAME, BOD HELMEPA, and MARTECMA.
