Palau International Ship Registry :Bridge Navigational safety

The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) has reported several recent incidents where inadequate lookout and poor watchkeeping practices have led to collisions, groundings, and serious injuries; a clear reminder of the critical importance of alert, qualified, and well-rested watchkeepers on the bridge.
While modern navigation technologies such as radar, ECDIS, and bridge alarms significantly enhance safety at sea, they cannot replace diligent human watchkeeping.
Based on the UK MCA safety spotlight, the following factors remain major contributors to maritime incidents:
✅ Distractions from mobile devices
✅ Improper alarm management
✅ Insufficient lookout resources
✅ Crew fatigue
The Palau International Ship Registry (PISR) underscores that navigation is both an art and a science. Still, it can’t be performed safely unless the watchkeeper is present, alert, and fully focused on the demanding responsibilities of the bridge.
