The UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (UK MCA) has reported several recent incidents where inadequate lookout and poor watchkeeping practices have led to collisions, groundings, and serious injuries; a clear reminder of the critical importance of alert, qualified, and well-rested watchkeepers on the bridge.
While modern navigation technologies such as radar, ECDIS, and bridge alarms significantly enhance safety at sea, they cannot replace diligent human watchkeeping.
