The current need for building an effective ESG strategy and reporting was the main suggestion made by Mr Costas Constantinou of Moore Greece at the 14th Hydra Shipping Conference, organized by the Fraternity of the Athenian Hydriots on Sept 16th, 2023.
C. Constantinou referred to the threats and opportunities created by the rapid development of technology and the universal pressure calling for environmental protection.
“Shipping is gradually starting to adopt global ESG standards and frameworks, said Mr Constantinou, as there is a need to report formally and consistently to various stakeholders, starting with financiers. He concluded that Greek Shipping has nothing to fear from change and just as it adapted from manual book-keeping to modern reporting through ERP systems and IFRS, it will adequately adapt to ESG requirements as well. It is just a matter of time.
